The Bureau of Quality Assurance (BQA), in the Division of Disability & Elder Services, is responsible for assuring the safety, welfare and health of persons using health and community care provider services in Wisconsin.

Guardianship

The Wisconsin Guardianship Support Center
The Wisconsin Guardianship Support Center is operated by the Elder Law Center of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups. CWAG is a non-profit organization providing advocacy and education on issues affecting Wisconsin’s elders. Staffed by attorneys, the Wisconsin Guardianship Support Center provides a statewide resource center on guardianship related issues. It is funded in part by Wisconsin’s Department of Health & Family Services.

Developmental Disabilities

The Waisman Center
The Waisman Center's mission is to advance knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. The center is one of nine national facilities that include a Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities Research Center and a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities
The Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities is dedicated to improving the independence, productivity, and integration of people with developmental disabilities in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Bureau of Developmental Disabilities
The Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS), located in the Division of Disability and Elder Services, is the primary state agency responsible for the development and implementation of statewide policy, services and supports for people with developmental disabilities.

DAWN Disability Advocates: Wisconsin Network
DAWN is a statewide grassroots cross-disability network of people who care about disability issues. DAWN supports legislative change in the programs affecting people with all disabilities, and focuses in the most important issues affecting all people with disabilities. It includes people with disabilities, family member, friends, service providers, and other who are committed to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities. The Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities funds DAWN as part of the State Plan on Developmental Disabilities.

The Wisconsin Coalition for Advocacy
The Wisconsin Coalition for Advocacy (WCA) is a private, nonprofit agency chosen by Wisconsin's Governor to provide protection and advocacy for people with disabilities throughout the state. WCA is completely independent of state government and direct service providers.

ARC Wisconsin
The Arc-Wisconsin provides a variety of assistance to people with developmental and related disabilities and their families. It is a member of The Arc of The United States and has 33 local chapters. The Arc-Wisconsin is a strong membership organization and people with disabilities, family members, and concerned citizens set the agenda and priorities for the organization always keeping in mind the mission of promoting quality of life opportunities.

Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin
The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin is a volunteer group consisting of people who wish to create an optimistic outlook about Down Syndrome for families and others. DSAW works with health care professionals, educators, federal, state and county agencies, community leaders, legislators, advocates, and parent support groups. DSAW's mission is to provide support to families and individuals with Down syndrome through education, information, and the exchange of ideas and experiences.

ADAPT
Nationally ADAPT focuses on promoting services in the community instead of warehousing people with disabilities in institutions and nursing homes. ADAPT is working to get 25% of the Medicaid long term care funds redirected to pay for a national, mandated attendant services program.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Brain Injury Association of Wisconsin
BIAW is a chartered member affiliate of the national Brain Injury Association, Inc. BIAW provides services in these 5 core areas: information and resources, education, prevention, advocacy, and support services. The Board of Directors and Staff of the association are dedicated to serving over 50,000 individuals with brain injury and their families living in Wisconsin.

Eating Disorders

National Association of Anorexia Nervosa
The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, Inc. is a non-profit corporation which will seek to alleviate the problems of eating disorders, especially anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa; to educate the general public and professionals in the health care field to be more aware of the illnesses relating to eating disorders and methods of treatment; to encourage and provide research to discover the causes of eating disorders, methods of prevention, types of treatments and effectiveness,basic facts about victims and formulate relevant statistics relating to their illness; to act as a resource center, gathering and providing information about eating disorders, including sources and facilities for treatment; to offer victims and their families the opportunity to meet together; to seek and provide funds to aid victims of eating disorders in their cure; to encourage interested individuals and groups to join together in seeking a cure for the problem of eating disorders; and to do any and all things necessary and incidental in order to fulfill the corporate purpose.

National Eating Disorder Association
The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is the largest not-for-profit organization in the United States working to prevent eating disorders and provide treatment referrals to those suffering from anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder and those concerned with body image and weight issues. NEDA is dedicated to expanding public understanding of eating disorders and promoting access to quality treatment for those affected along with support for their families through education, advocacy and research.
